  • The recall impacts more than 9,600 e-tron GT and RS e-tron GT models in the U.S.
  • Audi says the front brake hoses can crack due to excessive bending.
  • Dealers have been instructed to replace the hoses and mounts on impacted vehicles.

Soon after Porsche recalled more than 30,000 Taycans in the United States for a brake issue, the mechanically-related Audi e-tron GT and RS e-tron GT followed up to be repaired for the same issue.

Audi has revealed through a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recall notice that the front brake hoses can crack due to excessive bending and overstraining of the material used. If cracks form, brake fluid will start to leak, and the travel of the brake pedal could be extended. This also means braking distances may increase, and the front brakes could fail if all the fluid leaks out.

A warning message for low brake fluid levels may alert owners to the issue. Recall notices have been issued for e-tron GT and RS e-tron GT models in both the United States and Canada. In the U.S., 2022-2024 e-tron GT models built between March 26, 2021, and June 12, 2024, and 2022-2024 RS e-tron GTs manufactured from March 18, 2021, to June 12, 2024, are recalled. In the U.S., a total of 9,653 vehicles are involved, while in Canada, the recall impacts 536 e-tron GTs and 211 RS e-tron GTs.

Audi was informed of a potential irregularity with the front brake hoses in September last year by Porsche. The two automakers conducted tests and simulations of the brake hoses before deciding on a recall. Audi is aware of two warranty claims related to the hoses but is not aware of any injuries or crashes.

U.S. owners will be alerted to the recall on August 16, 2024, and dealers have been instructed to replace the front brake hoses with new ones, likely the same improved ones that Porsche will use for the Taycan. These new hoses have been used in production since last month.
