Arne Slot has been slammed by fans after his bizarre excuse for Liverpool’s poor form in recent weeks following their Champions League victory against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Their nightmare run finally came to an end in Germany last night, after the Reds recorded a 5-1 rout to put an end to their woes - for now.

Goals from Hugo Ekitike, Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Cody Gakpo, and Dominik Szoboszlai ultimately put Frankfurt to the sword, but league form remains a cause for concern.

Consecutive defeats against Crystal Palace, Chelsea and Manchester United, with Galatasaray beating them in the Champions League, meant four losses in a row for the first time since Brendan Rodgers was at the helm.

And while they returned to winning form in emphatic fashion on Wednesday evening, boss Slot does not believe it was down to their own play, but rather their opponents.

The Dutch manager has hilariously claimed the victory is down to Frankfurt playing the ball on the ground as opposed to in the air - something they have had to deal with against their recent opponents.

“The biggest exception for me was the playing style of our opponent,” Slot said after the game.

“We got some energy out of the moments we could press them — in the last four or five games we've played, we were not able to press the opponent, because the ball wasn't on the ground. It was through the air.”

With a trip to Brentford coming this weekend, Slot should be expecting a barrage of balls in the air and long throw-ins, such has become somewhat of a trademark at the Gtech Community Stadium this season.

And fans have been quick to ridicule the boss for his comments that clearly highlight his side's Achilles heel for any opposing manager potentially preparing to face the champions.
