ABU DHABI: Arcera Fosun Pharma partnership has been formalised through a new long-term collaboration agreement aimed at accelerating innovation in the global life sciences sector. The Memorandum of Understanding, signed on April 28, brings together Abu Dhabi-based Arcera Life Sciences and Shanghai Fosun Pharmaceutical Group to expand research, licensing and technology development.

The Arcera Fosun Pharma partnership aligns with the broader China-UAE strategic relationship and supports Abu Dhabi’s Healthcare Life Sciences Vision 2030. The collaboration is expected to strengthen the emirate’s position as a global hub linking Asian biotechnology innovation with international markets.

Under the agreement, both organisations will explore regional and global licensing opportunities, particularly in oncology, neuroscience, rare diseases and cardiometabolic treatments. The initiative will also focus on incubating advanced technologies, including biologics, gene therapies and small interfering RNA solutions, helping to build local research capabilities in the UAE.

A key pillar of the Arcera Fosun Pharma partnership is its focus on neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, addressing a growing global health challenge. By combining Fosun Pharma’s established research and manufacturing expertise with Arcera’s commercial reach, the collaboration aims to accelerate access to breakthrough therapies across the Middle East and beyond.

Arcera Chief Executive Officer Isabel Afonso said the agreement represents a major step in building a global life sciences ecosystem anchored in the UAE. Fosun Pharma Co-President Xingli Wang added that the partnership will enhance international collaboration and expand access to innovative treatments worldwide.

The agreement also reinforces Abu Dhabi’s ambition to attract high-value investments in healthcare innovation, supporting long-term economic diversification and improved patient outcomes.
