Speciality food and nutraceutical ingredients startup Arboreal Bioinnovations has raised Rs 230 crore in a Series A funding round co-led by EAAA, the alternatives arm of Edelweiss, and agrifood investor Omnivore.

Existing investor Rainmatter by Zerodha also participated in the round.

Arboreal will use the funding to expand its manufacturing capacity, strengthen its research and development capabilities and accelerate the commercialisation of its next generation of functional ingredients.

Founded in 2018 by Swati Pandey and Manish Chauhan, the startup develops ingredients and supply-chain solutions for food, beverage and nutraceutical businesses.

Its portfolio includes next-generation proteins, sugar-reduction solutions, cocoa-based ingredients, natural zero-calorie sweeteners, functional fibres and nutraceutical actives.

Arboreal describes its product-development approach as “contextual innovation”, with ingredients tailored to the nutritional, functional, sensory and commercial requirements of Indian consumers and brands.

The startup said its technology platform combines ingredient engineering, process research and development, formulation science and precision manufacturing.

It claims to serve more than 1,100 business customers across India and has supported more than 300 product launches over the past 18 months.

Swati Pandey, co-founder and CEO of Arboreal, said the fundraising was “a strong validation of the direction we are taking as a company”.

“It gives us the fuel to accelerate our mission of building clean, science-led solutions that address some of the world’s most pressing nutritional and food challenges, with innovation originating in India and reaching consumers globally,” she said.
