A/R: Flood sweeps away 7-year-old boy

An unfortunate incident unfolded in Abrepo Bronikrom, located in the Bantama Submetro of the Kumasi Metropolis in the Ashanti Region, after a 7-year-old boy tragically drowned during a downpour.

Residents reported that Kwame was among three children playing in the rain when one of their slippers got carried away.

In a desperate attempt to retrieve it, he was swept away by the rushing floodwater in the gutter.

This event took place on Saturday, September 25, 2025.

Eyewitnesses, visibly shaken by what they witnessed, spoke with reporters, expressing their dismay over the incident.

“We are really scared because this is the first time this thing is happening here in our community,” they shared, reflecting the grief that has engulfed the area.

As of the time of this report, the boy has not yet been found, leaving the community in a state of anxiety.

This comes after the body of a man who drowned during heavy rains in Kasoa was retrieved at Ironcity.

The victim, identified as N.K. Godfred, believed to be in his early thirties, reportedly fell into an uncovered gutter while returning home from work during the downpour.

Eyewitnesses say he attempted to cross the flooded drain despite warnings from bystanders, but was quickly swept away by the strong currents.

“He underestimated the situation. Some people tried to help, but the water was too strong,” a relative said.
