The political balance in Nigeria’s House of Representatives has tilted decisively in favour of the All Progressives Congress (APC) following the defection of six lawmakers from opposition parties to the ruling party.

With this development, the APC now commands 243 seats in the 360-member Green Chamber — surpassing the two-thirds majority threshold of 240 seats and further consolidating its dominance in the legislature.

The defections, which occurred three days into the legislative week, were formally witnessed by the APC National Chairman, Dr Nentawe Yilwatda, and Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah. The move signifies a major boost for the ruling party’s influence in parliamentary decision-making, particularly on key national policies and appointments.

The development marks yet another strategic victory for the APC, reinforcing its legislative control and strengthening its position in shaping Nigeria’s political and governance agenda.
