Former Super Eagles striker Victor Anichebe is reportedly leading an African consortium in advanced talks to acquire English League One club Bromley FC.

According to talkSPORT, the 38-year-old former Everton forward is heading a wealthy group of African investors seeking to take ownership of the South London club.

Anichebe is understood to be in discussions with Bromley’s current owner, Robin Stanton-Gleaves, as both parties work towards reaching an agreement.

The proposed takeover comes as Bromley face difficulties in their first season in League One after a rapid rise through the English football pyramid.

The Ravens secured promotion from the National League to League Two in 2024 before earning another promotion to the third tier at the end of last season.

However, their transition to League One has proved challenging, with the club struggling near the bottom of the table.

Bromley have collected just nine points from their opening 13 matches and recorded the division’s worst goal difference at minus 20.

Their poor start also led to the departure of manager Andy Woodman on October 22, ending his five-and-a-half-year spell in charge. The club have since failed to win any of their three matches following his exit.

Anichebe’s reported interest could provide an opportunity for fresh investment as Bromley seek to improve their fortunes and establish themselves in the division.

Since retiring from professional football in 2018, the former Nigeria international has developed interests in business and sports investment.

He is the founder and owner of Lumira Group, an investment company with interests in sports, education, healthcare and infrastructure across the United Kingdom.

Anichebe was also recently linked to a proposed £20m leisure development project in Liverpool.

His reported interest in Bromley follows an earlier attempt to acquire non-league club Gateshead last year, although the proposed deal did not materialise.

During his playing career, Anichebe featured for Everton, West Bromwich Albion and Sunderland in the Premier League between 2006 and 2017.

He scored 27 goals and provided 12 assists in the English top flight during his spells with the three clubs.

At international level, he earned 11 caps for Nigeria, scoring once in a 3-0 friendly victory over Kenya in 2011.

He also won a silver medal with Nigeria’s U-23 team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, scoring against Japan during the tournament.

If completed, the Bromley deal would mark a significant step in Anichebe’s transition from professional football to club ownership.
