Akwatia by-election: One person busted for unlawful removal of campaign posters

Police have arrested one person who was allegedly seen removing a candidate’s posters at a polling station in Akwatia during the ongoing by-election.

After his arrest, the police stationed at the polling station ensured the process continued swiftly without any interference from third parties.

This by-election has become necessary following the passing of the incumbent MP, Ernest Kumi, some months ago.

Over 50,000 registered voters are expected to cast their vote today to elect a new Member of Parliament.

The contest is between Bernard Bediako Baidoo of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Solomon Kwame Asumadu from the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Both candidates have organised vigorous campaigns, bolstered by appearances from high-ranking party officials and national executives who have been rallying support in the area.

To ensure a secure voting environment, the Ghana Police Service has deployed more than 5,500 officers across Akwatia, and the Electoral Commission has assured voters of a commitment to a free, fair, and transparent election.

Meanwhile, residents are encouraged to vote peacefully and to adhere to the electoral regulations.
