Ajayi will get more game time ahead of AFCON 2025 – Hull City coach

Hull City manager Sergej Jakirović says Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi will feature more regularly in the coming weeks as preparations intensify ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ajayi was in action on Tuesday night as Hull fell 2–0 to Ipswich Town in their Championship clash. With the tournament set to kick off in Morocco, Jakirović believes the Nigerian centre-back will see increased minutes before joining up with his national team.

“Semi will play even more now. He will play more because he is going to the Africa Cup of Nations on December 10.” Jakirović told the Yorkshire Post.

The Hull boss also explained his rotation strategy, noting the need to manage his limited defensive options.

“So I will try to spare (John) Egan because we don’t have so many centre-backs. We have Charlie (Hughes) and (Akin) Famewo.”

Ajayi is expected to be part of the Super Eagles squad as they look to contend for the title in Morocco.
