NOVABEL Academic and laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka stated on Sunday that he would hold off on making any criticisms of President Bola Tinubu’s administration until May 2024, one year into his term.

This is a personal policy of Soyinka’s, he explained, adding that the President will have a year to “make up” for lost ground.

When Soyinka paid the President, who is on vacation in Lagos, a courtesy call, he stated this.

You may have observed, though, that I generally give most heads of state my undivided attention for the first year or so after they assume office.since they require time.

“I had a seven-point agenda when I came here. And we talked about those topics in great detail.

“It’s actually a humiliating visit because I went to see him last time to attempt to talk him out of running for politics. I asked him and Atiku to kindly get off the ground so that kids could run. We last met approximately five years ago at that time.

I decided to check on him after he disregarded my counsel. I came to wish him and his wife a happy Christmas and to see how they were enduring Nigeria,” he said.

Dr. Alex Otti, the governor of Abia State, who also paid Tinubu a visit in Lagos, advised Nigerians to exercise patience, stating that prosperity would result from the economic changes if they were maintained.

Otti stated, “He has a really daring, uniting strategy; the exchange rate and then eliminating subsidy, which had turned out to be a fraud and was very expensive for us.

“Those policies are beneficial, but they also have drawbacks. With more than 60% of the people living in poverty, they present difficulties for the economy.

Thus, it won’t be simple right away. However, I think that things will eventually improve if we are patient and follow the policies without making any concessions.
