AEW Dynamite recap & reactions (April 1, 2026): Chris Jericho is back!

Chris Jericho is back, baby! No, that’s not an April Fool’s joke. Le Champion made a surprise return in his hometown of Winnipeg, Manitoba. AEW Dynamite (Apr. 1, 2026) also featured an impromptu main event for MJF, Will Ospreay in pain, Thekla trying to use brass knuckles again, and more from Canada Life Centre.

Dynamite began, then Chris Jericho’s name flashed across the big screen. Jericho soaked in the positive reception.

AEW allowed time for the fans to savor the moment. It was a smart move doing this in Winnipeg as not to risk any boos. Jericho finally spoke, “Winnipeg, AEW, I’m home.”

That was all. There were no hints on his direction, such as character, babyface or heel, next opponent. It’s sort of a cliffhanger to tune in for answers next week at the same Jericho time on the same Jericho channel. I enjoy a dose of Y2J, so this was a pleasant surprise, especially with expectation certain that he would leave for WWE. Pop a little bit of the bubbly, and drink it in, man.

Let’s jam through the rest of Dynamite. It will be a little out of order this week to flow better for the connected storylines. Catch up on all the details with excellent play-by-play from Claire Elizabeth.

MJF and Kenny Omega contract signing. No contact clause between the world champion and challenger. Omega waxed on about protecting AEW from that scumbag. MJF tested Omega’s patience with insults. He claimed that Omega was so desperate to win the title, because doctors told him that his intestines could explode at any time due to diverticulitis. Omega’s career is a ticking time bomb. MJF will show the fans that Omega is a false idol who would be better off dead. Omega lost his cool, and MJF tired to goad him into a fight.

Mike Bailey was on the spot to keep Omega calm. Speedball had fighting words and threatened to kick some sense into MJF. Omega questioned if MJF lost his balls. The champ didn’t back down and accepted an eliminator match against Bailey for the main event.

It looks like this promo segment will tell the story of the Dynasty main event. MJF should be targeting Omega’s midsection, and we’ll see if Omega can push through the pain. I don’t know if the angle about Omega’s career closing soon is real, storyline, or just poppycock from MJF. Whatever the case, it is a good way to create urgency on Omega’s behalf for emotional drama at the PPV. I also enjoyed how the TV main event was put together with Speedball. Bailey is pure babyface, and MJF is pure scumbag.

Omega was in action next right after the contract signing.

Kenny Omega, Jack Perry, & Brody King defeated The Demand. Kenny Omega, Jack Perry, & Brody King defeated The Demand. This mach had slick movement setting the table with purpose. The teammates worked together with saves and counters to set up offense. One entertaining sequence was Omega on a hot tag with snap dragons for Ricochet and Bishop Kaun. Omega struggled to soften Toa Liona for the suplex, but he got it. King followed for a cannonball onto the Demand stacked in the corner. The finish came down to Omega versus Ricochet. Omega kicked out of Richochet’s Vertigo driver finisher. Omega rallied for a V-Trigger and the One Winged Angel to win. None of the moves came easy. He had to work for it to put Ricochet in those positions, and that aspect made the match exciting.

It will be interesting to see what spins off from this match. Omega scored the pin on Ricochet to boost him up for the Dynasty world title bout. If Omega loses to MJF, will Ricochet want another crack at Omega? Ricochet can pick up with Perry again over the AEW International Championship, but I think that feud has reached its expiration date. One match I hope we get is a hoss fight between King and Liona. King had the last word on this evening with a running crossbody to Liona crashing through the timekeeper table. Meat!
