A Holiday Message from Rewire’s Executive Director

To our Rewire community:

When I joined Rewire News Group shortly after the 2024 election, I did so with the strong belief that independent journalism—and particularly journalism that provides accurate information about reproductive rights and justice—is essential to a healthy democracy.

The same forces that we’ve seen undermine reproductive freedom leading to the Supreme Court’s Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision ending federal abortion protections in 2022 have been attacking press freedom throughout 2025. I see these attacks —on reproductive rights, the press and beyond—as part of the Trump administration’s broader efforts to dismantle democratic institutions, silence marginalized communities, and restrict many people’s right to, quite frankly, exist in the world.

I’ve spent the majority of my media career using digital platforms to reach new audiences and build community. But in recent years, I found myself feeling more and more uneasy with the way legacy outlets were covering the intersectional issues that speak to someone like me: a Black woman of reproductive age. We’re all familiar with how this can play out in traditional mainstream newsrooms: a dearth of dedicated reporters covering reproductive health; a neglect of how race, class, and geography affect access; an overall lack of expertise on the subject or strapped resources; or all of the above.

Rewire News Group is that expertise. We don’t just cover abortion; we provide essential, intersectional journalism, analysis, and commentary that connects reproductive rights to democracy, racial justice, immigration, disability justice, LGBTQ+ rights, and more.

Over the past year as RNG’s executive director, I’ve been extremely humbled by and proud of the body of work produced by our small but mighty team. We’ve produced deeply-reported pieces, including this recent story on the rippling effects that ICE raids can have on pregnant immigrants and their newborns, and profiled Hope Walz, daughter of former Democratic Vice Presidential nominee Tim Walz.

Our award-winning podcast Boom! Lawyered returned to video for its ninth season (subscribe to our YouTube channel here)! We debuted a brand-new interview podcast from Co-Chief Content Officer Imani Gandy, called B*tch, Listen. And we reimagined Rewire’s newsletters—including by launching our flagship newsletter product, Rewire Weekly.

Today, we are bringing you more of the stories, analysis, and insights that matter most in reproductive justice, in both print and audio formats deliberately designed to fit your news needs.
