In a fiery rebuttal, APC stalwart Dr. Umar D. Duhu, PhD (LLM), has fiercely condemned opposition figure Dr. Umar Ardo for what he describes as a calculated campaign of falsehoods aimed at undermining Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s administration over the state’s longstanding water supply challenges.

In his strongly worded statement, titled “Dr. Ardo’s Recent Claims: A Blatant Attempt to Cause Mischief and Mislead the Public,” Dr. Duhu, a concerned citizen and prominent APC leader in the Northeast, expressed outrage at Dr. Ardo’s alleged distortions.

He accused the veteran politician and former governorship aspirant of spreading blatant lies and misrepresentations to portray perennial infrastructure deficits as exclusive failures of the current PDP-led government.

“The recent claims made by Dr. Umar Ardo regarding the water supply situation in Adamawa State are completely unfounded and utterly false,” Dr. Duhu declared.

He argued that the widespread sight of yellow jerrycans littering towns across the state stems from a decades-old problem inherited from successive administrations, not a novel shortcoming under Governor Fintiri.

Dr. Duhu emphasized that providing sufficient potable water is a core governmental responsibility across all eras, vital for public health and well-being.

He rejected any implication that residents favor jerrycans by choice, insisting it represents a desperate measure to secure a basic necessity amid inadequate systems.

“The presence of yellow jerrycans in Adamawa towns is a testament to the challenges, but Governor Fintiri cannot be held liable for a persistent issue plaguing successive governments,” he stated.

“Rather, his efforts to address this and provide basic amenities deserve acknowledgment and support.”

Labeling Dr. Ardo’s assertions as a pack of lies driven by personal agenda, Dr. Duhu urged the public to remain vigilant against such tactics and to recognize the Fintiri administration’s commitment to fulfilling its constitutional duties, including immediate actions on water provision.

Under Governor Fintiri, notable interventions include rehabilitation and upgrades of treatment plants (such as in Yola, Mubi, Hong, and others), pipeline expansions, solar-powered boreholes, and rural schemes.

The administration has also signed the Adamawa State Water Supply and Sanitation Hygiene Services Law 2024 to regulate the sector, alongside recognitions like an award for excellence in water supply at primary healthcare facilities.

Recent projects through initiatives like the North East Multisectoral Crisis Recovery Project have further boosted urban and rural access.
