A Call for True Leadership and Patriotism

Sisters and Brothers,

I would like to draw your attention to something very important that many of us have overlooked for far too long. The most coveted job in the world is to be the President of a nation. Yet, becoming a president does not necessarily require education, certification, or formal qualification. The only true requirement is membership in a political party and often, that depends on one’s proximity to those already in power.

Unfortunately, once these individuals assume leadership, they quickly act as though they possess all knowledge and wisdom. In Ghana, for example, we saw Madam Akua Donkor a hardworking farmer with no Western education rise to form her own political party and contest in national elections. This proves that leadership is not about academic degrees but about courage, conviction, and service.

For years, I have advocated that our national football team, the Black Stars, focus on grooming local talents as the foundation for building a strong and enduring football legacy. Sadly, our sports authorities continue to rely heavily on foreign-based players, often to the detriment of our local stars.

This raises a very important question: if Ghana continues to depend on foreign-based players in sports, why do we not extend the same opportunity to our foreign-based Ghanaians our diaspora in leadership, politics, and the economy? Shouldn’t what is good for the goose also be good for the gander?

It is time to confront the truth: we are being led by selfish, corrupt, and visionless individuals who have mistaken leadership for ownership. How can we, as patriotic and globally experienced Ghanaians, remain silent while a group of morally bankrupt apprentices drive our beautiful nation toward destruction?

Who told you that leadership is reserved for a chosen few? To be a president, minister, or diplomat is, in reality, an on the job training process not a divine calling. No one was born destined to rule. So why the arrogance, the greed, and the reckless display of power?

True leadership requires humility, selflessness, discipline, and integrity. It demands that we lead with conscience and consensus not coercion and deceit. Remember, leadership is a trust granted by the people, not a throne to be seized by might.

Let us rise above materialism, corruption, and ego. Let us lead with vision, patriotism, and love for our nation. Only then can Ghana and indeed Africa rise to her rightful place among the nations of the world.
