The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the nominees for the 98th Academy Awards, set to take place on March 15, 2026, in Los Angeles, and films from the 2025 Festival de Cannes Official Selection have made a powerful showing.

In total, six films that premiered in Cannes’ 2025 lineup earned places on the Oscar shortlist, collecting 19 nominations across 12 categories—a strong affirmation of Cannes’ continued influence on the global awards landscape.

Leading the pack is Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value, winner of the Grand Prix at Cannes 2025, which secured an impressive nine Oscar nominations. The film is nominated for Best Picture, Best International Feature Film, Best Directing, and Best Original Screenplay, alongside multiple acting recognitions, including Renate Reinsve in a leading role and supporting nominations for Stellan Skarsgård, Elle Fanning, and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas. The film also earned a nod for Best Editing.

Close behind is Kleber Mendonça Filho’s The Secret Agent, which won Best Directing and Best Performance by an Actor at Cannes. The film received four Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best International Feature Film, Best Actor in a Leading Role for Wagner Moura, and Best Casting.

Palme d’Or winner Jafar Panahi’s It Was Just an Accident continued its international momentum with two nominations, landing in Best International Feature Film and Best Original Screenplay.

Also earning two nominations is Oliver Laxe’s Sirāt, winner of the Jury Prize (Ex-æquo) at Cannes. The film was recognized in Best International Feature Film and Best Sound.

In the animation categories, Ugo Bienvenu’s Arco and Maylis Vallade and Liane-Cho Han’s Little Amélie or The Character of Rain—both screened in Cannes’ Special Screenings—each received one nomination for Best Animated Feature Film.

The Festival de Cannes has congratulated all the nominees and extended its best wishes ahead of the Oscar ceremony, celebrating another year in which Cannes-backed films have translated critical acclaim into global awards recognition.

The 79th Festival de Cannes is scheduled to take place from May 12 to 23, 2026, continuing the festival’s legacy as a launchpad for cinema’s most celebrated works.
