No fewer than 800 residents of Daura Local Government of Katsina State have benefited from the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) free medical outreach.

The medical outreach, which is part of activities lined up to mark the 60th anniversary of the NAF, covered children, pregnant women and the elderly in the local government.

Speaking during the event, the Commander, 213 Forward Operating Base Katsina, Air Commodore Garba Ibrahim-Jibia, said the medical outreach was part of the corporate social responsibility of the Nigerian Air Force.

He said the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, is committed to transforming the NAF into an agile and resilient force to effectively meet the air-power demand of national security in all operational units in the country.

Earlier, the Commander, 263 NAF Reference Hospital Daura, Group Captain Emeka Ifebi, said 800 persons were treated for malaria, diabetes, hypertension, typhoid fever and ulcer.

He said the medical outreach also provided free dental treatment, health talk on personal hygiene, environmental sanitation, as well as the distribution of insecticide treated mosquito nets to expectant mothers.

Ifebi added that children have been dewormed and free eye tests and glasses were provided for elderly people after cross-examination by the medical team, while blood sugar tests were also conducted on the beneficiaries.

He said: “The medical outreach is a form of NAF corporate social responsibility. It underscores the NAF initiatives to support the people of Daura in the areas of improved health care.

“The outreach has provided critical medical services to the people of Daura both men, women, old and the young. It would strengthen the cooperation and bond between the host community and the NAF.”

He commanded the Emir of Daura, Dr. Farouk Umar Farouk, for providing an enabling environment for the successful conduct of the medical outreach.
