80-Year-Old Man Arrested for Allegedly Burning Family House in Imo

An 80-year-old man, Cyril Duru, has been arrested in Imo State for allegedly setting a family house on fire in Umueze Orogwe, Owerri West LGA.

Family members accuse Duru of burning the six-room building amid a dispute over ownership. Duru denies the allegations, instead blaming his late brother’s wife, Marita Chiayalam Duru, and her children for the fire.

Marita refuted the claim, stating Duru had previously threatened them and was seen with a petrol bottle before the blaze. Village head Nze Ukachi Nzeka alleged that Uru attempted to stop youths from extinguishing the fire.
