5th-generation 2027 Toyota Highlander Debut As An All-electric SUV

5th-generation 2027 Highlander will be available in two grades : the XLE grade or the top-of-the-line Limited grade.

XLE AWD models will have a choice of 77.0-kWh or 95.8-kWh battery with 320-miles – latter also fitted to Limited grade.

Highlights on the exterior includes the new broad fenders, full-length LED daytime running lights, flush door handles.

Boasts the vehicle-to-load (V2L) function, which allows Highlander to serve as a power backup at home in case of an outage.

The all-new 2027 Toyota Highlander SUV has debuted not only with stunning new looks but also with a Battery Electric powertrain – ditching the gas and hybrid powertrains that has powered it since its arrival in 2001.

Seating for up to seven, the latest Highlander is Toyota’s first three‑row battery‑electric vehicle (BEV) for the U.S. market and the first BEV that will be assembled in America.

Toyota said that the 5th-generation 2027 Highlander will be available in two grades : the XLE grade or the top-of-the-line Limited grade – the latter boasting a AWD and 95.8-kWh battery with 320-miles.

The XLE grade will be available in front- or electronic all-wheel drive. XLE FWD models will have a 77.0-kWh battery as standard while the XLE AWD models will have a choice of 77.0-kWh or 95.8-kWh battery with 320-miles.

“This new Highlander is designed to be a stylish, high-tech leader in the midsize SUV segment,” said David Christ, group vice president and general manager, Toyota division, Toyota Motor North America.

“Its sleek new look, spacious interior, and cutting‑edge technology, make it a great addition to Toyota’s growing lineup of BEV’s.”

Highlights on the exterior includes the new broad fenders, full-length LED daytime running lights, flush door handles as well as vehicle-to-load (V2L) function, which allows the Highlander to serve as a power backup at home in case of an outage.

Inside, the cabin of the new Highlander boasts a large 14-inch touchscreen, 12.3-inch driver’s display as well as an available fixed glass panoramic roof – which the brand said will be the largest in the Toyota lineup.

The 2027 Highlander is the fourth BEV in the U.S. Toyota Lineup, joining the Toyota bZ, bZ Woodland, and C-HR Crossover models. Sales of the new Highlander SUV are expected to begin in late 2026.
