58 Years Ago Today : Lamborghini unveiled mid-engine chassis for its flagship Miura at the Turin Motor Show.

The chassis was designed by Lamborghini’s three top engineers, who envisioned a road car with racing pedigree.

They hoped to convince Ferruccio Lamborghini that such a vehicle would not distract from the company’s focus.

After the chassis’ stellar receptions at the 1965 Turin Motor Show, Lamborghini contracted Bertone, to design the body.

Named after the famous Spanish fighting bull breeder, the Lamborghini Miura was produced between 1966 and 1973.

It was the first supercar with a mid-engined 2-seat layout, a layout that has since become standard for high-performance sports cars.
