Here’s Autojosh rundown of 5 most expensive F1 cars sold at auction, featuring two (2) Ferraris, two (2) Mercedes and a McLaren.

Last week, Lewis Hamilton’s first-winning ‘Silver Arrow’, a 2013 Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 W04, sold for a whopping $18.8 million at a RM Sotheby’s auction block during the F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix.

RM Sotheby’s notes that it is the only Mercedes F1 vehicle from the modern era not owned by Mercedes, by team principal and Chief Executive Officer Toto Wolff, or by Hamilton himself.

“Lewis Hamilton’s first championship Mercedes F1 car took yet another pole position, this time breaking records as the most expensive F1 car ever sold,” said Mercedes-Benz while announcing the record sale.

While the $18.8 million price tag makes it the most expensive modern F1 car sold at auction, it still trails the amount paid in 2013 for a 1954 Mercedes W196R during a Bonhams auction.
