48 arrested in major cybercrime bust at Dawhenya

The Minister for Communication and Digital Technology, Samuel Nartey George, has announced the arrest of 48 individuals suspected of engaging in cybercrime following a coordinated security operation in the Dawhenya area of the Ningo-Prampram constituency.

The arrests resulted from an intelligence-led nighttime operation carried out by the Cyber Security Authority of Ghana, working closely with National Security and the Ghana Police Service.

According to the Minister, initial investigations suggest that the suspects, comprising 46 men and two women, are Nigerian nationals.

Authorities believe they are connected to several forms of cyber-related criminal activity, including romance scams, online investment fraud, impersonation schemes, and illegal online gold trading.

During the operation, security personnel seized 54 laptops, 39 mobile phones, a Starlink internet device, and eight MTN TurboNet routers.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, Mr. George reaffirmed the government’s commitment to tackling cybercrime, stating that intelligence-driven and targeted operations would continue to disrupt criminal networks operating within Ghana’s digital space.

He stressed that while Ghana remains welcoming to legitimate businesses and innovation, it will not tolerate cybercriminal activity.

The Minister praised the security agencies involved for their professionalism and effectiveness, noting that their work reflects the high standards for which Ghana’s security services are known globally.

He urged Ghanaians to remain cautious for a safe and secure festive season, encouraging the public to stay alert to online scams.

“I wish everyone a merry digital Christmas and a cybercrime-free New Year,” he said.
