The Lagos State Government has approved a three-month rebate window for motorists to replace their faded and unreadable vehicle number plates, as part of efforts to enhance road safety and strengthen security across the state.

Approved by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the rebate is aimed reducing the financial burden on vehicle owners, according to the Permanent Secretary, Motor Vehicles Administration Agency (MVAA), Mr. Rasheed Muri-Okunola.

“Clear and properly maintained number plates are essential for vehicle identification and security., Muri-Okunola said, while explaining that the condition of vehicle number plates is critical to effective traffic management, crime detection, and overall public safety,

“This three-month rebate is designed to give motorists ample opportunity to replace faded plates at a reduced cost while supporting our collective responsibility to keep Lagos roads safe and well-regulated,” he added.

Customs Grants Safe Passage For Vehicles Belonging To International Travellers, Permit Valid For 90 Days

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced the commencement of procedures for granting safe passage to personal vehicles temporarily imported or transiting through Nigeria by international travellers.

In a statement, the NCS said the new framework covers all personal, non-commercial vehicles belonging to international travellers visiting Nigeria for tourism, diplomatic, business, or personal purposes.

To benefit from this safe passage, international travellers are required to present valid documents such as international passport, international driver’s license, vehicle registration, insurance, and CPD at the point of entry.

Upon satisfactory inspection and verification, a “Temporary Vehicle Admission Permit” valid for up to 90 days will be issued and electronically recorded. Travellers may apply for an extension of up to 30 days, subject to approval by the relevant Customs Area Controller.

Lagos Bus Services Limited (LBSL), one of the operators of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) buses in Lagos State, on Tuesday January 6 confirmed that one of its buses was involved in a fire incident on the Lagos Third Mainland Bridge.

In a statement, LBSL stated that the incident occurred at approximately 1pm while the bus with code number 240057 was heading towards Oshodi from Obalende.

While confirming that there was no casuality or injury during incident, LBSL said that bus was consumed by fire despite the prompt response of good Samaritans and emergency responders.

LBSL said comprehensive investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire, adding that it will take all necessary steps to prevent future occurrences.
