The Story Sex can be a lot of fun — but it’s also an area of unfulfilled promise in many people’s lives. At least, that’s the impression one gets from reading sex education platform Beducated’s latest survey, which asked 1,885 respondents about their sex lives and desires. RELATED: The Best Sex Positions to Try With a Partner The Snapshot While the study explored a variety of interesting aspects of desire, questions that showed significant gaps between respondents of different genders were interesting. RELATED: Things Women Wish Men Knew About Sex For one, while the perception is that men are the hornier gender, according to Beducated’s survey-takers, there’s a bit more variation in the mix. This data suggests that, while women are more likely to report that they have very low libido and less likely to report a high one, they’re also more likely than men to report neutral ones, seeming to cluster in the middle. Furthermore, they're more likely to report very high libidos than nonexistent ones, and more likely to report high than low.  On the flip side, the above graph suggests that the longer a heterosexual relationship lasts, the more likely a man is than his female partner to say he’s the one with the higher libido — and it’s not close. The Lesson While it’s important not to extrapolate too much from any one survey, especially one with fewer than 2,000 respondents, the results Beducated found are definitely interesting. We have tons of ideas about how men and women experience sexual desire in our culture, and often they’re little more than myths. However, some of them have grains of truth to them, too. RELATED: Reasons She Stopped Having Sex The data in this study suggest that women can and do have very high sex drives — but that perhaps being in a long-term relationship with a man dampens them over time. For hetero couples, knowing that could be helpful as they negotiate challenges related to sex frequency, for instance.
