SCORENigeria has learnt that organisers of this year’s WAFU B U17 AFCON qualifying tournament in Ghana are still waiting on CAF to know the number of teams who will qualify for the 2025 U17 AFCON proper.

The two finalists of the 2022 WAFU B U17 AFCON qualifiers also hosted by Ghana, Nigeria and Burkina Faso, advanced to the 2023 U17 AFCON hosted by Algeria.

However, following the expansion of the 2025 U17 FIFA World Cup from 24 teams to 48 teams, Africa will now produce as many as 10 qualifiers instead of the previous four.

Qatar will stage the 2025 U17 World Cup as well as four subsequent editions thereafter as the tournament will now be staged every year.
