11 Suspected Kidnappers Fall Into Police Net In Kaduna

The Kaduna State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the arrest of 11 individuals suspected to be kidnappers.

The arrests were made across the state following a recent operation by the force, leading to the successful recovery of locally manufactured firearms and various other items.

In a statement released on Thursday, the command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, reported that in mid-August, police operatives from Saminaka, in conjunction with local hunters, executed raids in three villages within the Lere Local Government Area: Maraban Wasa, Gurzan Hakimi Mariri, and Abugan Kurama.

During these operations, four suspects were taken into custody: Abdulhamid Abubakar (30), Danjuma Luka (25), Ayuba Simon (50), and Idi Saleh (57).

The recovered items included a homemade single-barrel firearm, a green Golf vehicle, a Bajaj motorcycle, and eight mobile phones.

Additionally, on September 2, 2024, at approximately 9:00 PM, police established an ambush at a motor park based on credible intelligence regarding suspicious activities.

This operation resulted in the discovery of four fabricated AK-47 rifles hidden within a shipment. Six suspects—Lawal Murtala, Isa Kabiru, Auwal Surajo, Kamala Lawal, Umar Adamu, and Kabiru Liman—were apprehended around 5:10 AM the following morning.

“Confiscated items included four fabricated AK-47 rifles, two English pistols, two pump-action guns, 24 cartridges, 29 rounds of live ammunition of various calibres, a large quantity of assorted charms, a walkie-talkie, an axe, and N908,600 in cash,” the police spokesperson noted.

Hassan further noted that on September 3, 2024, at approximately 10:00 PM, law enforcement acted on credible intelligence regarding a suspected criminal residing in a hotel in Tafa, within the Kagarko Local Government Area.

A patrol unit successfully apprehended Yahaya Yusuf, a 41-year-old individual from Kabo Village in the Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State.

During questioning, Yusuf admitted to his participation in cattle rustling and kidnapping activities across both Niger and Kaduna states. Additionally, a Tecno mobile phone was seized from him.

The Commissioner of Police for the Kaduna State Command has urged the community to cooperate with law enforcement and has promised to strengthen measures to address criminal behaviour.
