streaming reading

What I’m watching and reading:

  • You must watch the documentary: Live to 100- Secrets of the Blue Zones on Netflix. The documentarian visits areas of the world that have high life expectancies, and he interviews and investigates. It’s so interesting!
  • As far as reading, I haven’t picked up a new book yet. But my husband and I listened to Ghost Story, a podcast from Wondery. It’s a good one!

Must Make Recipes

Fun Recipes I’ve spotted on the internet this week:

personal updates

Here’s what’s going on in my life:

  • We are back in Arizona, where the low temperatures are pretty much the high temps that we were seeing in Oregon! It’s a pleasant 80ish degrees right now, which is so nice for this time of year.
  • I had a birthday! I don’t like to do much for my birthday these days, but we did have a nice dinner out with good friends. That’s good enough for me!

Food News

Catch up on food-related news of the week:

  • New Cookbook Release: The Pioneer Woman Cooks―Dinner’s Ready!: 112 Fast and Fabulous Recipes for Slightly Impatient Home Cooks by Ree Drummond. Ree has been a good friend of mine for a long time, and her books are always fabulous. Can’t wait to see this new one too! From Amazon: In this book, you’ll find lots of new dishes to fit your schedule, whether you’re in a hurry to get supper made or simply want to get out of the kitchen quicker to spend time doing other things you enjoy (even if that’s curling up in front of the TV for the night)! Every occasion is covered, from hosting company, with my mom’s Seafood Casserole from the ’70s and Pork Marsala with Mushrooms, to pizza night, with my classic Cast-Iron Hamburger Pizza and gorgeous Rainbow Pizza, to teenager-friendly fun food like Pretzel Dogs and Pickle Chicken Bites. You’ll also enjoy tasty new pasta dishes, chicken dinners, and fuss-free sides like Crispy Parmesan Potatoes and Pimento Cheese Grits, as well as delicious desserts like Blackberry Lime Whip and Chuckwagon Brownies. As a delicious bonus, there’s a whole chapter of easy-to-make Fridge Grabs—from Refrigerator Pickles to Garlic Confit—that are great to have on hand for adding even more flavor and zip to the recipes!
  • There is a new Guinness World Record holder for the hottest pepper!
  • Andrew Zimmern is sharing his secret to the perfect crispy fried egg.
  • Here’s the Japanese city that dominates street food.

Products I'm Loving

Products I’m loving:

  • Thinking ahead to stocking stuffers, pick up this (cheap) Smack It card game (ages 6+). My sister’s grandkids love it!
  • You can get that guy that’s tough to buy for a Golf Ball Washer!
  • Look for Nick’s Swedish Style Light Ice Cream pints at your local market. It’s low carb and lower fat. They have many flavors, and it’s delicious. We’re currently enjoying the pumpkin spice flavor.
  • Here’s another “tough to buy for” item: a sunglasses and baseball hats caddy. I love this!
  • This Ladies Fingerless Golf Glove is so great. Regular gloves can be restricting!
  • Look for Pumpkin Pie at Costco! It’s cheap, and they do a good job with it. Their pumpkin pies don’t have preservatives, which is why they keep them in the refrigerated section.
  • Have you ever done the 23andMe ancestry DNA test kit? I got one as a gift once (fun!), and it’s fun to gift to others too.
  • I found the most adorable knives. Lots of good ratings too!

Time to Bake

Let’s bake some Warm and Comforting Desserts!

  • This recipe for Cinnamon Caramel Bread Pudding is elegant enough to serve as dessert at a fancy dinner party, but it’s also easy enough to make and serve to the family (and enjoy leftovers for a few days).
  • These Peanut Butter S’Mores Turnovers are a delicious combination of chocolate, peanut butter and marshmallow in a flaky puff pastry.
  • This Brownie Pie a la Mode is a super easy dessert recipe.  Picture a warm brownie pie fresh out of the oven and topped with vanilla ice cream and a quick and easy homemade fudge sauce.

Next Week's Recipes

Next Week’s Recipes:

  • On RecipeGirl: Mom’s Pumpkin Pie, Maple Apple Cheddar Pie, Chocolate Chip Scones, Chicken Alfredo Soup, Ginger Pear Pie and Whiskey Sour
  • On RecipeBoy: Snickerdoodle Cookie Butter (holiday gift idea!)
  • On RecipesForHolidays: Bourbon Chocolate Pecan Pie for Thanksgiving!

Have a wonderful week!

XO
Lori (RecipeGirl)
