10 Possible Careers for Grade 10 Learners Taking Electricity in Senior Schools

On Friday, December 19, 2025, the government opened the portal for candidates who sat the 2025 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) to check their Senior Schools placements. This came a week after the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) released the Grade 9 results.

One of the key features of the Competency-Based Education (CBE) system is pathway selection at Grade 9, which allows learners to choose educational tracks aligned with their skills, interests, and career aspirations.

Learners may select up to 12 preferred Senior Schools (Grade 10), ranked from Category C1 to C4. These options enable students to match their competencies and interests with available school capacities.

Grading of KJSEA Examinations

The Kenya Junior Secondary Education Assessment (KJSEA) is the national assessment taken at the end of Grade 9 under Kenya’s Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

It replaces the old high-stakes exams like KCPE and focuses on competencies, strengths, and holistic performance rather than raw marks or rankings.

Overall assessment for placement into Senior Secondary (Grade 10) is an overall score:

  • 60% from the summative KJSEA exam (taken in October-November 2025).
  • 20% from School-Based Assessments (SBAs) in Grades 7 and 8.
  • 20% from the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) in Grade 6.

No certificates are issued. Unlike KCPE, learners receive detailed result slips with performance descriptions.

Grading Structure for KJSEA uses an 8-level achievement system divided into four leading performance bands:

  • Exceeding Expectations (EE): Outstanding performance.
  • Meeting Expectations (ME): Solid, expected competency.
  • Approaching Expectations (AE): Developing skills, close to expected level.
  • Below Expectations (BE): Needs more support.
