1. Malawi’ means ‘fire flames’. The country takes its name from the reflection of the rising sun on the waters of the vast Lake Malawi.

2. Fourth poorest country in Africa and has been producing tea for well over a century. It is the continent’s second largest tea producer after Kenya.

3. Malawi is a landlocked country that sits in the southeastern region of Africa.

8. Malawi made history by hosting the largest elephant translocation in history. In 2017 over 500 elephants were successfully relocated from Majeta and Liwonde (two National Parks in Malawi) to Nkhotakota.

9. Malawi has one of the highest rates of child marriage in the world, with approximately 1 in 2 girls married and/or raising children by the age of 18.

10. There is a Scottish settlement that is a lot like the real thing. Another Malawi fact. Blantyre is a city that can be found in the south of Malawi. It was founded in 1876 by Scottish settlers.
