Volkswagen-owned Porsche AG recently got rid of its 45 per cent stake in Bugatti Rimac Joint Venture along with its 20.6 per cent share in the Rimac Group in order to focus struggling brand on the “core business”.

“Now, with the sale of our stake, we demonstrate that we will focus Porsche on the core business. We would like to thank Mate Rimac and his team for the constructive and trusting cooperation over the past years,” said Porsche boss Michael Leiters.

With this sale – to a consortium led by New York-based HOF Capital – the Volkswagen Group ended its 28-year relationship with the Bugatti brand – which it has owned through the Porsche brand since in 1998.

Volkswagen Ex-Chairman Ferdinand Piëch bought rights to the Bugatti name in 1998 before changing the Automotive Industry with the Bugatti Veyron.
