On November 29, 2024, the School of Media and Communication at Pan-Atlantic University (PAU) celebrated the third cohort of MTN Media Innovation Programme (MIP) Fellows for their completion of the intensive media fellowship. The event recognised the hard work and dedication of the fellows and awarded two Fellows NGN1,000,000 each and the third NGN 500,000 to celebrate their efforts towards media innovation and effective reporting.

MIP is a six-week programme spread over six months for media practitioners in Nigeria. The programme was created to increase the participants’ knowledge and skill base, help them understand the changing media landscape and how to effectively use technology to create impactful media content.

Commemorating with the Fellows, the Dean, School of Media and Communication, Pan-Atlantic University, Dr Ikechukwu Obiaya, said, “ Our vision has always been to empower skilled professionals who will positively impact society. By participating, you have embraced this vision. As you depart today, we encourage you to make a difference in whatever environment you find yourselves in and to actively work towards creating meaningful change in the community.”

The graduation ceremony rounded off with the presentation of awards to the three outstanding MIP Fellows in the following categories: MTN Nigeria Chairman’s Award for Innovation, awarded to Augustus  Aigbe of Cool FM;  the MTN Foundation Chairman’s Award for Innovative Reportage on MTN Foundation, awarded to Moninkanola Ogidan of Adaba 88.9FM and  Award for Best Reporting, presented to Chiemelie Ezeobi of ThisDay Newspapers.

“At MTN, we are deeply committed to excellence, which is why our partnership with Pan-Atlantic University continues to thrive. We understand that the future of media hinges on innovation and adaptability. These awards not only recognize the achievements of the Fellows but also represent our investment in the next generation of media leaders. In a time when digital platforms are reshaping storytelling, it is essential for media professionals to possess the skills and resources necessary to succeed.”

” Executive Director of the MTN Foundation, Odunayo Sanya, said during the presentation of awards.

The ceremony was a testament to MTN’s commitment to improving the Nigerian media landscape and technology reporting.
